WSFA Small Press Award

I’ll be posting more about Capclave soon, but I figured I should talk briefly about the WSFA Small Press Award that was presented there this past weekend. Clarkesworld had two stories up for the award, but in the end, it went to "The Wizard of Macatawa" by Tom Doyle (originally published in Paradox magazine). The Clarkesworld stories on the final ballot were:

  • Orm the Beautiful” by Elizabeth Bear published in the January 2007 issue of Clarkesworld Magazine
  • The Third Bear” by Jeff VanderMeer published in the April 2007 issue of Clarkesworld Magazine

As finalists, both authors received certificates which I was proud to accept on their behalf. If you haven’t read these stories, do yourself a favor and check them out. If you are a paper sort of person and don’t want to read them online, they are both in the first volume of Realms.

Those were both amazingly good stories, and it was an honor to share the final ballot with them. Good seeing you last weekend–I hope to run into you again soon!
