Slush Reader Application 2016

Clarkesworld Magazine occasionally has need of new slush readers. If you are interested, please fill out this application. We never know when an opening will happen, but when one does, people on this list get priority.

A few notes:

  1. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
  2. Slush readers & other staff are prohibited from submitting stories or articles to the magazine.
  3. You will be expected to read and provide comments on an average of five stories per day.

Slush Reader Applications

I’d like to thank everyone who expressed interest in our recent slush reader opening at Clarkesworld. We received over forty applications, so the final decision was much more difficult than normal. That said, we have reached a decision and our new reader has been notified. Their trial period begins this week.

Clarkesworld Magazine is once again looking for a slush reader. If you are interested, please fill out this application.

A few notes:

  1. This is an unpaid position.
  2. Slush readers & other staff are prohibited from submitting stories or articles to Clarkesworld.
  3. You will be expected to read an average of at least five stories per day and provide short comments on them.
  4. We will make our decision this weekend.
  5. New slush readers start with a one-month super-secret trial period.

Looking for Slush Readers

Slush Readers for Clarkesworld Magazine

Clarkesworld Magazine is currently looking for a few slush readers to handle first pass reading of fiction submissions. Depending on their speed, candidates should expect to work between five and ten hours per week. Prior experience not required.

This position is unpaid, but we will happily write letters of recommendation or process internship paperwork as necessary. After one month review period, readers are added to the staff listing and become eligible to receive a free copy of Realms, the annual Clarkesworld anthology.
