And then there were three

I am pleased to announce that Electric Velocipede will be the third magazine to adopt the online submission system that I cobbled together for Clarkesworld Magazine. I never intended to make this program available to other publications, but I’ve been a fan of both Electric Velocipede and Fantasy Magazine for a while now and couldn’t say no to either. It’s a pleasure to be associated with them, even in this small way.

Electric Velocipede will start using the (as-yet-unnamed) system when they reopen to submissions on August 1st.

Kushiel’s Scion and Fistful of Charms have been out for a few weeks, but since these copies ere being signed, they’ve just started shipping last week. Phantom was supposed to be issued signed by the publisher, but (probably due to Terry’s health) that edition was cancelled. I had a lot of disappointed customers on that one.

The free fiction on our site seems to be drawing a lot of attention in the first 24 hours. This is definitely something I plan to continue. Next up will be a couple of stories from Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine.

Glad to have Talebones showing in the magazine list. Good news there is that the subscription drive has been a success and they will continue publishing. Fantasy Magazine slipped to #2 this week, but it stands a good chance to take back that spot next week.

Online Fiction

We’ve just kicked off our online fiction section at Clarkesworld with three stories from Fantasy Magazine.

The first three are:

Authors or publishers wishing to contribute stories or excerpts to help promote their book or magazine should contact me at books@clarkesworld.com.

Fantasy Magazine

Fantasy Magazine has been around for three issues and it’s already one of my favorites. Judging by the sales in our store, it seems to be impressing others as well. The last two issues came out within a couple of weeks of one another (long story) and they’ve just sent me the details on the next two, which you can find here. Thanks to oldcharliebrown, I’ll be adding a few sample stories to our site as well. I’ll post again when they are up so you can judge for yourselves.

By the way, they are looking for some feedback here. Let them know what you think of the covers, stories, etc.

Fantasy Magazine

If you haven’t already heard, FANTASY MAGAZINE will be making it’s debut at World Fantasy Convention this November. The first issue will include contributions from Jeffrey Ford, Eugie Foster, Sarah Brandywine Johnson, Nick Mamatas, Megan Messinger, Vera Nazarian, Holly Phillips, Tim Pratt, Margaret Ronald, Sonya Taaffe, Catherynne M. Valente, Jeff VanderMeer, and Erzebet Yellow-Boy, as well as an interview with Jeffrey Ford.

We’ve just made arrangements with Prime Books to take one-year subscriptions for this magazine. If you prefer to just preorder the first issue, we can do that too. We ship individual issues. They ship subscriptions.

I’ve always considered working out subscription arrangements with publishers, but I’ve never followed through. Now that I have one, it seems silly not to chase down some of the others. Judging by the number of magazines currently stocked, I have a lot of work ahead of me.
