My first convention since the heart attack will be Capclave (October 12-14). My goals for this convention? Avoid anything that requires a hospital stay.

I’ve been scheduled for the following:

Small Press an ebook perspective (Friday 7pm)
Panelists: Scott H. Andrews, Neil Clarke, Chris Dolley, Katie Hartlove
Small press editors discuss ebooks. How are ebooks affecting the small press industry? How do you compete with the big boys?

Fast Forward Capclave Edition Neil Clarke (Friday 10pm)
Panelists: Neil Clarke
The crew from Fast Forward will be film an interview with Neil Clarke in front of a live studio audience.

Publish or Perish? (Saturday 2pm)
Panelists: Danielle Ackley-McPhail, Neil Clarke, Katie Hartlove, James Maxey, Sean Wallace
How is publishing changing in the Internet Age? What has caused the explosion of the small presses? Are publishers still adding value in selecting, editing, and proofing books or are authors better off self-publishing? Aside from Baen, are publishers doing anything to establish an identity and attract a consistent base of readers?

Choosing an Ebook by its Ecover (Saturday 4pm)
Panelists: Neil Clarke (M), Craig Alan Loewen, James Maxey, Sherin Nicole
How does format affect art and does it matter to readers? How do you stand out in from the rest?

Small Press Awards (Saturday 8:30pm)
Two Clarkesworld stories are in the running, so I’ll be there cheering them on.

The Future of Reading (Sunday 9am)
Panelists: Neil Clarke, Chris Dolley
Bookstores are disappearing and ebook use is growing. Online zines and podcasts are replacing print magazines. How does this affect readers and writers and sellers of science fiction and fantasy? How can new writers and books by midlist writers get to readers? What will the reading world of 2020 be like?

Online publishing: From blogs to e-magazines (Sunday 2pm)
Panelists: Scott H. Andrews, Neil Clarke, Brenda Clough, Sherin Nicole, Sean Wallace
What are the advantages and disadvantages of publishing online? Who are some of the best online publishers and what do they do? What can be learned from some pioneers? And how can new would-be publishers get started?

Many other hours will be spent sitting in the dealer’s room at my table. Before anyone says anything, I intend to have someone help me with the boxes.

If you’ll be in the DC area that weekend, I hope to see you there!
