Crash Bang Boom a Trip to Capclave

I spent this past weekend at Capclave in Maryland and had a great time. I spent a lot of time in the dealer’s room and the panels were great. I had a chance to spend some time chatting with Sheila Williams (one of the GoHs), Scott Andrews (Beneath Ceaseless Skies), Edmund Schubert (Intergalactic Medicine Show), John Joseph Adams (Lightspeed and F&SF), Sean Wallace (Fantasy), and many many others.

By the way, Harry Turtledove fans, WSFA Press is back for the first time in years and started with a Guest of Honor book by Turtledove. Reincarnation: six stories never-before-reprinted, an original story, story notes, and an introduction by Sheila Williams. There is a signed limited and a trade edition. Grab one for your collection!

Oh and if you are a Lewis Shiner fan, they’ve dug up copies of the slipcased signed limited edition of Edges of Things that they published years back. Great book.

Next year’s guests are Connie Willis, Jeff VanderMeer and Ann VanderMeer. Looking forward to that one and hoping WFSA has a book for them!

And now that I’m done promoting the good of the weekend….

Less than 10 minutes after leaving the hotel, my van was struck from behind by a Nissan Pathfinder. The driver looked away from the road (must have been for a while) and when she looked up, I was stopped in front of her. BAM!  She hit the van hard enough to push it several feet forward and into the car in front of me. That was with the breaks on. Fortunately, no one was hurt. I’m still a bit achy, but it could have been much worse. My insurance company (Progressive) gets an A+ for handling everything. Over $4k in damage and I’m not paying a penny of it. Repairs – handled. Rental car – handled. Driver that hit me, a big fat F for not paying attention. Oh and the Maryland police… you also get an F for caring more about the traffic flow than the people in an accident. Shame on you.

Had this happen to me recently enough – car in front (into which I was pushed) drove off! Very unexpected. But all I had to do was drop car to insurance approved garage and pick it up again. Very nicely done.

Glad no one was hurt – did you see something similar happened to Pyr_books wife? Tweeted today.

    So sorry

I’m sorry to hear about your accident and the failure of the police to help you. I’m glad the insurance took care of it, though.

I’m glad you had a good time at Capclave!

Glad you’re okay! Accidents are definitely no fun. And glad your insurance company came through. (If you’re still achy in a day or so, by the way, it wouldn’t hurt to get yourself checked over by your doctor, just in case you pulled something when you got jerked forward…)
