Hugo Eligibility for Works at Clarkesworld Magazine

The 2012 Hugo Award nomination period is now open. Eligibility details and a nomination form can be found here. Since the rules can be occasionally confusing (or require counting), we're providing the following information about work at Clarkesworld that is eligible for nomination:

BEST EDITOR SHORT FORM

  • Neil Clarke – Fiction Editor
  • Cheryl Morgan – Non-Fiction Editor

SHORT STORY (less than 7500 words)

NOVELETTE (between 7,500 and 17,500 words)

NOVELLA (between 17,500 and 40,000 words)

  • Silently and Very Fast (Parts 1, 2, 3) by Catherynne M. Valente

BEST SEMIPROZINE
Despite the fact that Clarkesworld is once again eligible for BEST SEMIPROZINE, we ask that you nominate someone who hasn't been a nominee before instead. If not nominating us this year bothers you, nominate one of our editors in short form or your favorite story in the appropriate category. We'll still feel the love. 🙂

NOTE: There is a Hugo rule change that may go into effect next year. We'd like to encourage you to nominate for Semiprozine as if it already happened. I'll be blogging in detail about this soon, but for now, a description of the effect of the proposal (it was modified slightly, but the effect is the same) is here.

BEST FAN WRITER

  • The authors of any non-fiction we published in 2011.

BEST FAN ARTIST

  • The artists that created any of the covers we used in 2011.

Look Who’s Back at Clarkesworld…

It is with great pleasure that I announce the return of one of our founding editors to the Clarkesworld staff. After the birth of his twin daughters, Sean Wallace stepped down to focus his time on his new family and Prime Books. Despite that, in his spare time, he kept lurking around our hallways and kicking at the slushpile. Security wasn't quite sure what to make of it.

When Prime sold off its two magazines late last year, I saw it as an opportunity to draw Sean back into the fold in an official capacity. Much to my pleasure, he has agreed to return and continue his work in the fiction department with me. After his departure, I never filled his position. Secretly, this has been my evil plan all along. No one ever escapes from Clarkesworld.

Clarkesworld and Dozois’ Years’s Best #29

The table of contents for Gardner Dozois’ Year’s Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Ninth Annual Collection has been announced and the following Clarkesworld stories will be included:

Congratulations to our authors and everyone else who has been selected this year!

Anyone remember Clarkesworld Books?

The bookstore has been closed for a few years now, but there are still a lot of books left in inventory. I've been selling heavily discounting books at local SF conventions, but I thought it might be nice to make a bigger dent, so…

Clarkesworld Books is back from the dead (until November 19th, when it will promptly keel over and die again) for yet another "get this stuff out of my house" sale. Many prices have been slashed below our costs and a $40 minimum order ($3.50 flat rate shipping) is in effect. Do some early holiday shopping or treat yourself to a nice pile of books. Visit clarkesworldbooks.com and shop before we drop.

All income will be put in the Clarkesworld Magazine budget. All space recovered from sold inventory will be given to my family.
