Sneak Peek: Realms: The Second Year of Clarkesworld Magazine

Hoping we’ll have the ARCs by Readercon, but here is a sneak peek at the finished cover for Realms 2:

Art by Aaron Jasinski.

I’ll have this up for preorder sometime in the next day or so.

Before and After

I’ve probably mentioned here at least once before that my health took a nose-dive in the late 90’s. It wasn’t until late 2002 that I found a doctor that was able to figure out all the things that were messed up with me. Sometimes I look back at pictures and have trouble accepting them as me.

I don’t have many pictures of myself, so when I received a couple of requests from conventions for a photo, I had to scramble. I couldn’t find anything I liked and a lot of them just scared me. Fortunately, my lovely wife, Lisa, was around to help rectify the situation. A few minutes in the backyard and I had something much more acceptable to send them.

Just to illustrate my point, the photo on the left is pretty accurate representation of a typical day in 2001. That was me at my best. Seriously. If you saw that guy on the street, you’d run away screaming Zombie! Zombie!  Fortunately, it’s been a while since that has happened. 🙂

Anyhow, long story to say that I’m much happier with my new picture.

Readercon!

Readercon is coming in a couple of weeks! I’ve been attending for a few years now and recommend it very highly. This year should be even more fun for me. It’s the first time I am attending as a guest. The preliminary schedule has just been released and I see that I’ve been assigned to the two panels I asked for. Yay! On top of that, I’ll also be manning the Clarkesworld/Wyrm table in the dealer’s room.

I’ve been told that there was so much interest in The Future of Magazines panel that they split it into two back-to-back panels. I’m in group two (rumored to be online magazines and conclusions), but we’re expected to be there for both parts.

Honorable Mentions:

Congratulations to everyone!

And then there were three

I am pleased to announce that Electric Velocipede will be the third magazine to adopt the online submission system that I cobbled together for Clarkesworld Magazine. I never intended to make this program available to other publications, but I’ve been a fan of both Electric Velocipede and Fantasy Magazine for a while now and couldn’t say no to either. It’s a pleasure to be associated with them, even in this small way.

Electric Velocipede will start using the (as-yet-unnamed) system when they reopen to submissions on August 1st.

Zazzle you are REJECTED

I just received two REJECTED BY CLARKESWORLD t-shirts from Zazzle. I’m returning the shirts and will likely close my account with them. You can even read the text on the finished product. The colors are all wrong (really, a BLUE bear?). It looks nothing like the photo. How disappointing.

I’m going to see if I can find another place to make these products. Recommendations welcome.
