Continued thanks to everyone participating in our big sale. I’m going through the orders as fast as I can. Several books have gone out of stock, so I’m racing to get those changes on the site too!

Blindsight by Peter Watts

Ok, I’ve gone on about this book for a few months now. Yes, it’s the best book I’ve read this year, destined for awards (at least it DAMN WELL BETTER get them) and something you should put on top of your to-be-read pile.  It’s a TOR hardcover and may only see a single printing despite earlier news of a second printing.  (See Peter’s blog for details.)  This is a crying shame.

Can’t find a copy?  I still have them here.  Can’t afford a copy?  Peter just put the whole book under creative commons for a free read here:

Read this book.   If you like it, find a copy and buy it.  I don’t care where.

Keep My Wife Sane Pt. 2

So far, the “Keep My Wife from Having a Nervous Breakdown” sale is going well.  Weekend sales numbers were significantly higher than normal.  Lisa is pleased by the number of books that are leaving the house, but there are many many many more that still pose a threat to her.

To make it look like more progress was being made, I dragged one of the couches out of the rec room (try this with a bruised rib sometime) and replaced the spot that it once occupied with boxes of books that I can throw a blanket over.  Now there are fewer boxes in the living room, but I don’t think she’ll be fooled for long, especially after the boys discover the new “fort opportunity”.

(Lisa, I know you read this.  <subliminal user=lisa>You will remember nothing of what I just said and this entry contained only glowing things about you.</subliminal>)

Help Keep my Wife Sane Sale

I run Clarkesworld out of my house, which means that there are a lot of books in here with us. Unfortunately, my wife is approaching her wit’s end. I love her too much to let her unravel beneath the growing inventory, so her mental anguish will become everyone else’s gain. We are running the largest sale we’ve ever undertaken. Nearly 1500 books have had their prices cut!

Help spread the word and keep my wife from totally losing it. 🙂

Ouch

A couple of days ago, my three-year-old son, Eamonn, was playing around and kicked me while I was putting him in bed. At the time, it stung and I brushed it off. It still hurt yesterday and today it was even worse. I can’t yawn or sneeze. The pain shuts that right down. Turns out that the little stinker bruised my ribs and I’m in for 4-6 weeks of recovery.

Ouch.
