Get Tuckerized by Tobias S. Buckell

We’re running a new contest:

Get Tuckerized!

Tobias S. Buckell’s first novel, Crystal Rain, will be published in February 2006 by TOR. Preorder your signed copy through Clarkesworld Books and you will automatically be entered in a contest to be Tuckerized in one of his future novels.

What’s Tuckerized?
Tuckerized (after Wilson Tucker) is naming a character in a work of fiction after a real person. That’s right, a character in one of Tobias’ books would be named after you.

Can I use a friend or family members name?
Yes, but we need their permission.

What will happen to the character that is named after me?
That’s completely up to Tobias. Just keep in mind that this can be any sort of character. Anything can happen.

Contest rules can be found here. Spread the word!

5Subterranean Magazine

Big week for Subterranean with two books and a magazine in the top 5. Fairwood Press was not far behind with a book and a magazine making the cut. Most of the Olympos sales are for the matching numbers to copies of Ilium we sold over a year ago. We’ll see if it can maintain that spot next week.

Win a $50 Clarkesworld Gift Certificate

I’ve decided to try something new in the quest to grow my business. No advertising comes close to the response from word-of-mouth references.

I’m offering a $50 Gift Certificate as a reward to the customer who sends us the most new customers. In this case, I’ll loosely define “new” to include customers who haven’t purchased from us in the last year.

Just tell people to put your name in comments field (or in an email to me later). At the end of the month, I will look at all paid orders and declare our winner. If this works, it may become a monthly thing.

Be creative, but anyone using SPAM to get customers for us will be disqualified.

I know what I’ll be doing the next couple of days…

UPS deposited 6 very large boxes from Subterranean Press outside my house today. I’ve received the signed limited editions of Olympos by Dan Simmons and The Girlhood of Shakespeare’s Heroines by John Crowley. I’ll be packing up orders for a while. With Olympos, I have to match numbers (it’s a numbered edition) for the people who bought the Ilium signed limited. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but Simmons books are very nice. Expect Crowley’s book to sell out quickly.

When I’m done with these I plan on reading my copy of the Crowley. If I start before then, I might not ship orders.
