We should be receiving Steven Erikson’s The Devil Delivered sometime this week. If that happens, expect it to be the top seller next week. We have a lot of preorders for this one and the signed paperback edition is already out of print at the publisher. They’ll do a second printing, but it will be unsigned.

Pig in Mud

Magazines have been pouring in during the last few days. I’m like a pig in mud. New issues of Analog, Argosy, Asimov’s, Cthulhu Sex, Interzone, and The Third Alternative are now available in the store. We should have Dark Discoveries soon.

Babbage Press just sent email stating that BLUEBOUND by Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens will start shipping at the end of the month. It’s a Galen Sword short-story in chapbook form. It will be released in three editions:

Unsigned chapbook 500 copies.

Signed chapbook – One hundred hand-sewn, numbered copies are signed by the authors on a black & white
signature page. The cover stock is Stardream, a 105 lb. Citrine Mica from Italy. It was
issued in a translucent, marbled vellum envelope.

Signed lettered chapbook – Twenty-six lettered copies signed by the authors, editor, illustrator, and designer on
a color signature page. This edition features Japanese stab-binding,blue Hindumomi
metallic paper from India over boards, embedded blue tiles, and a silver message tube. Will include a reading copy of the unsigned chapbook.

Three New Horror Books

In the last 24 hours, I’ve received boxes from Delirium Books, Necessary Evil Press, and Bloodletting Press. Inside were signed limited edition hardcovers by three authors we’ve worked with in the last year: Weston Ochse, Gary Braunbeck, and Tom Piccirilli. I have do something special…

I’ve cut the prices on all three books and if you buy two or more of the three, I’ll also give you free media mail shipping. (International customers, you’ll get that cost credited against your shipping.) Feel free to pass this around. It isn’t a Livejournal-only thing. This offer is good through April 10th or until I run out of books, whichever comes first.

Here they are:
Scarecrow Gods by Weston Ochse (Delirium Books)
In the Midnight Museum by Gary Braunbeck (Necessary Evil Press)
Thrust by Tom Piccirilli (Bloodletting Press)

5. H.P. Lovecraft’s Magazine of Horror

Based on sales at Clarkesworld Books ( for the week ending April 3rd, 2005.

The titles in this week’s best-seller list were very close after the first 2. It’s no surprise to find Charles de Lint in the top spot. Definitely a customer favorite and each new release proves it. I’m thinking that I should run some sort of contest for the recently announced Hour Before Dawn.

Magazine sales were also closely bunched this week. I think this is the first week (since I’ve been keeping these records) that the top two have been taken by “big name” magazines. Oddly enough, preorders for a magazine that isn’t even out yet were higher than any of these. Expect new horror magazine, Red Scream to make it’s debut at the top of the bestseller list when it comes out later this month.

Thanks to all who sent Lisa and I congratulations on our 10th anniversary! We had a nice trip despite the rain and managed to get back home before the roads flooded. The kids had a fun time at grandma’s. Speaking of the kids… Happy Birthday Eamonn! He turns 2 today.

Yes, we are April Fools

Lisa and I were married 10 years ago today. Yes, married on April Fool’s Day. We wanted the first free Saturday in April and it just happened to work out that way. It didn’t bother either one of us, so we booked it. Turns out most people don’t want to get married on April 1st, so we had no problem booking locations, flowers, entertainment, etc. It was held in a mansion at the college that we had both graduated from (and at which I was still working). There was only about 130 people there, some of whom I don’t think I’ve seen since. Some, I’d be happy never to see again. Aside from us, the highlight of the reception was the fact that we served PEEPS as hor dourves.

I am incredibly lucky. I have someone who is not only a great mother to our two children, but also someone I can count on to stick by me. I’ve been through the worst times of my life with her at my side and she’s still here. Sometimes, no, most of the time, I think she’s crazy for having done so.

So today Lisa and I are taking a little vacation. We can’t really afford it, but sometimes you just have to look past that and celebrate the positive. We won’t be gone for long or even that far. When you have kids, it’s hard to get any time away, so this is special. They’ll stay with grandma and grandpa, and we’ll have the day to ourselves.

Since I won’t be dealing with orders this weekend, customers who place orders today and wish us a happy anniversary in the comments section of the cart will get 10% off the in-stock items on that order. One percent for each of the years Lisa and I have been married.

Take care,
