Bestsellers

Just figured out the bestsellers for the week and this is what I came up with:

Books:
1. Going Postal by Terry Pratchett (signed hc)
2. System of the World by Neal Stephenson (hc)
3. Trujillo by Lucius Shepard (signed hc)
4. Polyphony 4 ed. by Deborah Layne and Jay Lake (tpb)
5. Dogs in Moonlight by Jay Lake (hc)

Magazines:
1. Alchemy
2. The Third Alternative
3. Interzone
4. Flesh & Blood
5. Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine

I’m really pleased to see Lucius, Jay, and Alchemy doing this well. I have to restock on Jay’s book. Better get to that now.

It’s been a while

I’ll admit it. I’m not off to a great start on this LiveJournal thing. A lot has been happening lately. I could go into details, but for now, no. I’ve said some of it in my newsletter, but what’s on my mind today is rejection. Aside from running the bookstore, I’m also in higher education. A couple of years ago, I left my old job because it was the right thing to do. Since then I’ve been looking something along those lines. I’m disappointed today because I found a place that would have been an excellent match with me. I finished as the #2 candidate. I pleased to all ends to have made it that far. It gives one hope… but still. Argh.

Oddly enough, I’m trying to figure out how to work this into a sale at the store. I need to reduce the inventory a bit over the next few weeks. If anyone actually reads this and has some thoughts, I’d love to hear them… even the crazy ones.

Keeping up with the times

I set up a LiveJournal. (I’ve been playing with Moveable Type for months and like it better, but there are advantages to being here.)

Thanks to a special 6-month promotional offer I have a cable modem.

We now have an 802.11g wireless network running at home.

I signed up for an instant messenger account CLARKESWORLDBOOK (some crazy person has Clarkesworld already and CLARKESWORLDBOOKS is too long for them)

Progress is a good thing. Now, I just have to start building more shelves for all the books that are filling my rec room. Nah… I think I do a sale and run a few contests instead. If anyone has any brite ideas, I’m all ears.
